If you’re staying on Isle of Skye you MUST stay at this bed and breakfast. It’s absolutely stunning. Every bit as beautiful and magical as I’d imagined. As you pull up the driveway towards Viewfield House you instantly feel transported back in time. This 200 year old Victorian Manor was built by Lord Macdonald….I know so very Scottish!
It’s located just outside of Portree which is the largest town on Isle of Skye. It’s a great location for touring Skye as it’s set towards the middle of the island and most of the major sites are within an hour’s drive. If the weather is nice and you feel like walking you can walk down a lovely path directly into Portree.
All the rooms at Viewfield House are stunning but if you’re looking for the ultimate room you must book Room #1. It’s absolutely massive (especially by European standards) and is decorated floor to ceiling in antiques. The bathroom has a gorgeous claw foot tub complete with a beautiful view of Portree Bay. Seriously, it was one of the most beautiful rooms I’ve ever stayed in.

Are you ready for the ultimate kids travel hack? Stay at a small bed & breakfast and bring your video baby monitor! Viewfield House offers a wonderful candle-lit dinner service each night. We were able to get Davis settled and asleep, set up the baby monitor, head downstairs for a date night all while staring at our little munchkin on the video monitor! Dinner is a three course meal made with local fresh ingredients-some of which are grown right in their own garden! The menu changes nightly and you are given your choice between a few main dishes & family style sides. Accommodation is based on dinner, bed & breakfast so at least one night of your stay you’ll be dining here!
After dinner everyone gathers in the drawing room near the fire for tea and whiskey! We enjoyed a pot of tea with chocolates and a competitive game of rummy five hundred! Most guests congregate and chat with one another-we on the other hand were perfectly happy keeping to ourselves and people watching aka ease dropping on what the Scots think about our current president was very entertaining! After a few child “free” hours we headed back up to our room to call it a night.

Before you head off on your days adventure fuel up with the ultimate breakfast experience! We both ordered the full Scottish which comes with eggs, sausage, bacon, mushrooms, baked beans, buttered toast, coffee/tea and of course haggis. But never fear, if the full Scottish isn’t for you they have plenty of other breakfast offerings as well. Everything about this place feels old world, down to the place settings & dishware!

After breakfast don’t forget to take a stroll around the property. Viewfield house is located on 20 acres of woodland forest and beautiful gardens. It’s here you will find a great view of Loch Portree. Keep an eye out for the owners dog-this friendly canine is sure to greet you with kisses! Davis was obsessed!

I cannot recommend this bed and breakfast enough. When staying here you feel transported back into 19th century Scotland. The food is incredible, owners warm and welcoming and the rooms are immaculate. If you’re heading to Isle of Skye do yourself a favor and make your home base Viewfield House.
