Amoudi Bay

After a couple of hours exploring Oia we decided to walk down to Amoudi Bay for lunch. If you’re looking for where the steps down to the Bay begin you can look for Kastro Oia Houses.  Take your time walking down these steps, they are uneven, deep and covered in donkey poop.  To us, it kind of felt like an eternity walking down but it’s definitely worth it. Take breaks as you go and look back at where you came from to see some stunning views of Oia.

Once you successfully navigate down the donkey poop covered stairs you will be greeted by the most charming little bay. There are a handful of seaside restaurants that line the crystal-clear water.  If you have your swimsuit and are brave enough there are some rocks you can jump off of! I did not have my suit, but after that long walk down in the blazing hot sun I wish’d I’d brought it!

We chose to eat at Sunset Amoudi Taverna. We went there with every intention of getting the lobster pasta I’d heard so much about.  I read that it would be expensive but I thought YOLO baby! Well my YOLO quickly turned into a NOYO when I saw the price tag.  For a whopping €124 the coveted lobster pasta can be yours. Sure, it’s large but it’s no bigger than a serving of pasta at an Italian restaurant in the States. I could not justify spending that much money on literally one dish.  So instead, we switched up the plan and got a little sampler of appetizers including tzatziki, octopus, calamari, Greek salad and a mini bottle of wine! It turned out to be the perfect little meal and we ended up spending less than €50!

Once our meal was complete I thought we could walk over to the little street at the bottom of the bay and catch a taxi.  Boy was I mistaken….instead we ended up hiking all the way back up to Oia via the street which took WAY longer than climbing the stairs back up. Do not make this mistake. We were hot, miserable, a little buzzed from the wine and absolutely lost.  We didn’t pass another person walking the entire time and saw literally zero taxis.  By the time we made it back to Oia we went straight into a scuba shop and begged the owner to call us a cab.  Take our advice, just plan on hiking back up to Oia via the stairs or maybe you can ask the restaurant you are eating at to call you a taxi.
