Kato Mili Windmills

This post is going to be short and sweet because, well that’s what your trip to the Kato Mili Windmills will be.  When thinking of Mykonos I’ll admit these windmills were one of the first things I thought of.  Most of the windmills were built in the 16thcentury by the Venetians.  Their primary function was to take advantage of the windy island to grind wheat into flour. The windmills have been largely out service since the 19thcentury but about 10 of them still stand.

You will find 7 windmills located at the Kato Mili complex (these are the windmills you think of when you think of Mykonos!) They are located just outside of Mykonos Town and are widely visible from the harbor and Little Venice. This place gets VERY crowded for sunset so I’d suggest going a bit before or after then.

We were very lucky that our hotel the Mykonos Theoxenia was located literally steps away from the Windmills.  We didn’t have to make a special trip to go see them as we looked out on them each morning while eating breakfast! They are very cool and worth a visit but not somewhere you’ll need hours exploring.

Enjoy the pictures below!
