Take one look at the village of Oia and every dream you’ve ever had about Greece comes true! White washed buildings and blue dome churches cover every inch of this seaside town. Many of the houses and restaurants are built right into the cliffs! This part of Santorini has amazing views of the sunset over the caldera. Although, I must admit we never watched the sunset in Oia as it gets very crowded, more on that later.
Our first stop in Oia was to Pita Gyros for some amazing street food. We tried the pork souvlaki and chicken gyro, both were excellent. Not to mention you seriously can’t beat the price at €3 a gyro. We may or may not have eaten here twice it was so good! Side note, why don’t more places put French fries in gyros here in the states?!

For our second stop, we wanted to find the iconic blue domes! Sure, there are blue domes all over but there is one spot that is on basically every post card in Santorini. Unfortunately, these domes aren’t clearly marked anywhere so here are the exact coordinates to get that perfect picture 36.461245, 25.375832.

We spent the rest of the day wandering the charming streets. A stop in Atlantis Books is a must. Walking into this book store is like walking into a book lovers dream! It has an old world feel and many rare first editions. Even if you aren’t in the market for a book stop in and take a look at this adorable shop carved into a cave!

Wandering around Oia is a wonderful way to spend a few hours but keep in mind that everyone has this idea. It seemed like when the cruise ships were in town 99% of the cruisers headed straight for Oia which makes for crazy crowds. We were there at the very beginning of high season and I honestly can’t imagine how crowded it is during July and August.
So, I leave you with this…if you’re planning a trip to Greece, definitely go in May!
