We arrived in the Quebec City area before we were able to check in to our hotel so we decided to explore nearby Île d’Orléans. This island located just 15 minutes outside of the city was one of the first areas to by colonized by the French. With that said, it’s no surprise this little island has wonderful wineries!
We started our day at Cassis Monna & Filles. This winery makes the most delicious black currant wines and liquors. It has the cutest barn that you can walk through and learn some of the history of the site as well as the different products they produce with their black currant. They call this an “economuseuem” and it’s truly an interactive experience!
Once you’ve learned a bit more about the history and methods of producing the black currant head into their wine cellar for a tasting! If you like sweet wines, then these are for you. Their color is undeniably beautiful-a rich, deep purple like I’ve never seen in a wine. If you visit during the summer months they also have a restaurant and ice cream shop on site. Cassis Monna & Filles is absolutely gorgeous and well worth a visit. I loved the rustic feel, barn style décor (obsessed with the purple tractor out front) and the welcoming faces!
Our second stop on Île d’Orléans was Vignoble Isle de Bacchus. Pulling up to this winery I was squeeled with excitement! The white exterior, blue windows and trim with vines hanging all over is beyond picturesque. I think I literally left Davis and Gabe in the car as I ran towards the quaint little winery, little did I know the best was yet to come!
As we walked along the pathway towards the wine cellar I started to catch a glimpse of the view. This winery has the best views of the Saint Lawerence River, Montmorency Falls and of course their beautiful vineyard. The cherry on top of the cake at this place is the amazing wine. The tasting area is a small, stone walled room with exposed wooden beams full of so much character. If you’re in the area, do not miss this Vineyard!
We loved our short visit to Île d’Orléans. We would have stayed in the area longer but we were starving! If you’re visiting off-season we found there weren’t many food options in this area as it’s mostly vineyards and farms. If you like wine and stunning scenery GO!
