One of my favorite parts of planning a trip is researching all the must eat foods in a new city! A great way to find interesting food to try is to use the search function in Instagram and insert whatever city you are going to plus the word eats…..#Montrealeats.
One of the places that kept coming up in just about every search was St. Viaters Bagel Shop. With multiple locations throughout Montreal a stop at this bagel shop is not to be missed! We visited the Mile End location. I didn’t know that there was a battle between Montreal and New York bagels but having tasted both I’d say Montreal wins hands down. Their bagels are a bit thinner, more dense and because they are boiled in honey it gives them a slightly sweet taste. The best part about these bagels is they are delicious all on their own…no cream cheese required! Be sure to ask for a bagel fresh out of the oven.
The next stop on our list was Schwartz’s Deli. Schwartz’s was established in 1928 and it is considered a Montreal Institution! Full disclosure we visited Shwartz’s the day before and the line was down the block! So we made a plan to re-visit during the week. We strolled in on a Tuesday at about 10:45 and were seated right away. We shared the smoked meat sandwich which is served on rye bread with yellow mustard. It was flavorful, fatty & delicious.
Ok, you must have Poutine in Montreal. We got it a few times and each time was equally delicious. Our first stop for Poutine was at Robin des Bois. We stumbled upon this restaurant as we arrived in Montreal since it was right by our Air BnB. Robin des Bois which means Robin Hood in English is a not for profit restaurant that donates all its profits to local charities. It is a warm and welcoming restaurant with a great vibe and amazing food!
As our Montreal trip came to an end we excitedly packed up the rental car and began the road trip to Quebec City. On our way out of town we made a quick stop at Trou de Beigne to pick up some coffee and donuts. I LOVE a good “fancy” donut and the best part about this place is they make a miniature version of all their full size donuts which means you can try one of each!
What are some of your favorite #Montrealeats?!?
