Wynwood Walls

Last time we were in Florida I had been dying to check out the Wynwood Walls! Unfortunately the day we were supposed to go there was a terrible thunderstorm and we had to scrap it.  So when Gabe told me he had to travel to Miami for work I instantly said Davis and I are coming….and we are going to the Wynwood Walls!

Being the dessert chaser that I am, we started our day at the Salty Donut! Pro tip-go on a weekday.  I had read online that the line was always out the door for this place but we were literally the only ones there at 9AM on a Tuesday.  We ordered the traditional glazed (my favorite), brown sugar butter, girl scout samoa and the maple bacon (always my go to fancy donut order).  They were delicious! To finish it off I ordered a cinnamon toast crunch latte…yum.

After we were sufficiently filled with sugar we decided to walk towards the Wynwood Walls.  This open air art installation located in the Wynwood neighborhood was started in 2009.  It was created as a way to revitalize the neighborhood.  Street and graffiti artists from all over the world have come together to create the walls.  One of the best things about visiting this outdoor museum is that its free! We had no idea that the Walls had an “opening” time so we were there about 20 minutes before they opened at 10:30. On one hand this was great because there weren’t many other people there.  On the other hand it stunk because we were on a time crunch and would have loved 20 more minutes to walk around inside.

I’ll be honest we really only walked around the Walls for about 10 minutes before we had to leave so that Gabe could prepare for his work meeting.  I really wish we had more time there! These murals are honestly so cool! I wasn’t expecting to enjoy them as much as I did.  They’re massive and so vibrantly colored.

If you’re in the Miami area I highly recommend checking out the Wynwood Walls (and stopping for a sugar break at the Salty Donut) I’d say an hour or two is plenty of time to walk around and explore the area.  Hope you enjoy our pictures below!
